They can be internal or external. Symptoms of piles may include pain, itching, bleeding during bowel movements, and discomfort. An anal fistula is an abnormal connection or tunnel between the anal canal or rectum and the skin near the anus. It often results from an infection or abscess in the anal area. Symptoms of a fistula may include pain, swelling, drainage of pus or blood, and recurrent infections.
